Whatever Happened to That Dude?

Whatever happened to Antwan Jamison?

Remember Antawn Jamison? The smooth-scoring forward with the unorthodox flip shots and relentless energy? If you followed the NBA in the 2000s, you definitely remember him. But after his playing days, he seemed to fade from the spotlight. So, what ever happened to that dude?

The Rise: From Tar Heel to NBA Star

Jamison’s basketball journey began in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he starred at Providence High School. He then played college basketball at the University of North Carolina, earning national player of the year honors in 1998. He was selected fourth overall in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors but was immediately traded to the Golden State Warriors for his college teammate Vince Carter. Over a 16-season NBA career, Jamison played for six teams, including the Warriors, Mavericks, Wizards, Cavaliers, Lakers, and Clippers. He was a two-time All-Star and scored over 20,000 points, making him one of the most prolific scorers of his era.

The Reinvention: From Court to Front Office

After retiring in 2014, Jamison didn’t stray far from basketball. He became a TV analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet, covering the Lakers. In 2017, he transitioned to a scouting role with the Los Angeles Lakers. By 2019, he returned to the Washington Wizards—where he had his most productive playing years—as the director of pro personnel. In this role, he oversees NBA, G League, and international scouting efforts.

The Legacy: Giving Back and Staying Connected

Beyond basketball operations, Jamison has been active in philanthropy. He launched the “A Better Tomorrow” campaign to support underprivileged youth and established the Antawn C. Jamison Scholarship at his high school alma mater. So, what happened to Antawn Jamison? He transitioned from NBA star to a respected front office executive, continuing to impact the game from behind the scenes. His journey reflects a successful reinvention, staying connected to basketball while giving back to the community. Now as of the 2024-2025 season Jamison is the Senior Director of Pro Personnel.
