1. Matt Coronato- Edition 6 starts off with a check-in from Matty C. In games 51-60, Coronato amassed 2 goals, 2 assists and holding a plus/minus of -6. He had 18 shots, 1 game winning goal and 3 points on the powerplay during that time frame. Coronato is the shooter of the future. After game 60 on the Flames schedule, he’s now up to 15 goals and 16 assists after only playing 55 games in that stretch. Coronato has been using his elite shot a lot more, therefore creating more chances for the team even if he isn’t scoring on every shot he takes. You could consider him an untouchable with the franchise at this point. I could see him being a consistent 20-30 goal scorer for the club for years to come.
2. Dustin Wolf- Wolf is the whole reason the Flames are in the playoff hunt at the moment, and his play from games 51 to 60, like the rest of the season are a testament to that. From Jan 25th to March 2nd Wolf had a record of 3-5-2, which is a big result of the play of the team around Wolf. I wouldn’t put any blame on the young tender as he’s been spectacular. He has a .899 SV% in that time frame, and compared to the rest of the league, Wolf currently is 12th in GAA with 2.52, tied for 10th with 3 shutouts and sits 4th in SV% with a .915. Can Wolf drag the Flames into the playoffs? It’s looking like he just might. Wolf recently broke a Flames record as being the only rookie goalie in franchise history to record 3 shutouts in a season. If he keeps playing to this level, he might even get mentioned for a Vezina.
3. Jonathan Huberdeau- Huberdeau is currently tied with Kadri for the team lead in goals and points with 22 goals and 46 points. In games 51-60, Huberdeau was a -4, scored 3 goals and had 4 assists. 4 of those 7 points came on the powerplay. Huberdeau is tied 53rd league wide for goals, and with his 20th goal this season it marked his 7th season in the NHL where he has scored 20 or more goals. Huberdeau has taken on a bit of a power forward style this year, and though they aren’t mind blowing numbers, it’s nice to see him playing with confidence again.
4. Jacob Battaglia- Big prospect updates on this Edition, and Battaglia is just one of the many Flames prospects that have had really strong seasons, and played their way into major conversations around the fanbase and onlookers. In 62 games played, Battaglia has accumulated 38 goals and 45 assists for the Kingston Frontenacs. He’s recorded 34 minutes in penalties, has 11 goals and 26 points on the powerplay while scoring 4 game winning goals. Battaglia is 11th in OHL scoring and holds a +/- of +8. He has 6 goals and 4 assists in his last 10 games played.
5. Henry Mews- The mobile defenceman has had an impressive season, posting 14 goals and 62 assists for 76 points in 62 games played. He’s a -8 but also has 5 goals and 31 assists on the powerplay. He currently sits 19th in OHL scoring for points and is 3rd among all D-men. Hes averaging 1.23 points per game while hitting the net with 218 shots on goal. I’m confident that Mews can continue to grow his game. With a strong summer of training, he could give the Flames some headaches when it comes to decisions to make at main camp.
6. Jaden Lipinski- It’s been a while, so let’s see how Jaden has made out this year. In 54 games played for the Vancouver Giants, Lipinski has scored 15 goals and added 38 assists for 53 points. He has 5 goals and 20 points on the powerplay, while winning 707 faceoffs which is good for 58.3% in the dot. Lipinski is averaging 0.98 points per game and is a -1 on the season. He has 5 goals and 6 assists in his last 10 games played.
7. Matvei Gridin- Gridin is having an excellent season posting 32 goals and 39 assist in 52 games played for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL. He sits 14th league wide for points totals and 14th as well in goals scored. Hes a +26 on the year and has 24 points on the powerplay to go along with that while averaging 1.37 points per game. Gridin has an explosive style of play with a wicked shot and good skating ability that makes him an offensive threat at all times. Hes had an impressive amount of growth in his game since he was drafted. Gridin has 7 goals and 9 assists in his last 10 games played.
8. Luke Misa- Misa has scored 34 goals and 46 assists for the Brampton Steelheads of the OHL so far this season. He sits 14th in OHL scoring while carrying a +/- of +32 and scoring 6 goals and 14 points on the powerplay. He is averaging 1.29 points per game and has won 467 faceoffs which is good for 50.6%. Misa is a quick shifty player that makes a living gaining entries into the offensive zone and setting up plays, with the skill to finish off plays as well. He has 3 goals and 7 assists in his last 10 games played.
9. Trevor Hoskin- In 36 games played for Niagara Univeristy of the NCAA, Hoskin has put together a decent year scoring 12 goals and adding 27 assists. He has a +/- of +7 and has served 12 minutes in penalties. A lot of fans didn’t know much about Hoskin, or expected much to add to that, but he’s been a pleasant surprise. The 20 year old forward has 3 goals and 7 assists in his last 10 games played.
10. Hunter Laing- In 58 games played in the WHL this season, Hunter has 23 goals and 19 assists, which puts him 104th overall in points. He’s a +14, served 31 minutes in penalties, has 5 goals and 8 points on the poweplay with 4 game winning goals. Hes won 87 out of 175 faceoffs which gives him a win percentage of 49.7%, while averaging 0.72 points per game. Laing has scored 8 goals and 3 assists in his last 10 games. Hes a big body and if he fills out other aspects of his game, he could be a fun find for the Flames.
