Saturday Night in Washington, DC Boone Robbie Jenner will play his 675th game with the Blue Jackets organization. Boone Jenner has been a mainstay in the Blue Jackets locker room since his rookie year. Boone was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets, in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, 37th overall pick. Boone’s rookie year, he helped the team make the playoffs, boasting a 16-13-29 line in 72 games with 5 game winning goals. Jenner is known for being a gritty front of net presence, and his first NHL goal on October 17, 2013, vs. the Montreal Canadiens was a result of that.

His first NHL hat trick would come in a similar manner, almost 6 years later, vs the Boston Bruins on home ice.

Boone Jenner is often seen as the epitome of Blue Jackets hockey because of his strong work ethic, physicality, and team-first mentality. Here are a few reasons why he embodies the spirit of the team:

  1. Leadership: Jenner has consistently shown leadership qualities both on and off ice. In just his third year on the Blue Jackets, he was named Alternate Captain alongside Brandon Dubinsky and Captain Nick Foligno.
  2. Work Ethic: Jenner is known for his relentless work ethic and determination. He consistently gives 100% effort in every game and is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team succeed. His commitment to hard work sets an example for his teammates.
  3. Physicality: Jenner is a physical player who isn’t afraid to throw his weight around. He is known for his strong forechecking and ability to win battles along the boards. His physical presence creates energy for the team and can often swing the momentum in their favor. He led all rookies with 211 hits in his rookie season.
  4. Two-Way Player: Jenner excels in both offensive and defensive aspects of the game. He can put up points and contribute offensively, while also being responsible defensively. His ability to play a complete game makes him a valuable asset to the team. He is 54.7% for his career from the face-off. He continues to be the most consistent center for the Blue Jackets.
  5. Team Player: Jenner always puts the team’s success ahead of personal accomplishments. He is willing to sacrifice personal statistics for the greater good of the team and is known for his selflessness. He is always willing to do whatever it takes to help his team succeed.

Boone Jenner is the epitome of what it means to be a Blue Jacket. If his natural talent level matched his work ethic and toughness, Boone Jenner would be a McDavid level player. Personally, I feel like when Boone does retire, he all but certainly will be the Blue Jacket to have his sweater retired. I know a lot of you reading this are probably thinking, why? What has he done to deserve this? His numbers aren’t special. He likely won’t win a Stanley Cup here. He won’t win any awards, but when all is said and done, he will forever be remembered as what it means to be a Blue Jacket and that, should be a reason to be immortalized in the rafters of Nationwide Arena.
