Well, we’re officially through the Olympics and it’s time to get to get back to real hockey. The Dallas Stars are officially a wagon, and might even be a favourite to win the cup this year. Jake Oettinger has been his usual, lights out, with two shutouts already recorded this season, and backed up with very strong performances from Casey DeSmith. Not like it was unexpected, but Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, and Wyatt Johnston have been the elite offensive force that this team has needed them to be. As per normal, Miro Heiskanen has been absolutely stellar.
After 57 games played, the Dallas Stars are sitting comfortably in third place in the Central division, only one point behind Minnesota. Normally divisional third would be cause for concern, but Dallas is a whopping THIRTEEN points ahead of the Utah Mammoth, who sit in the first wild card slot in the West.
There’s extra optimism coming after the Olympics, as Colorado front man, Nathan MacKinnon might not play right away and Los Angeles’ Kevin Fiala out for the rest of the regular season, at best. Injuries to this caliber of players will further weaken the Western Conference. Hopefully then making it much easier for the Stars to succeed for the remainder of this season.
