Jack, Luke, and Quinn Oh My!

1st Period:

Last night in Vancouver the 3 Hughes Brothers shared the ice for the first time in the NHL. From the opening puck drop both teams both came out firing on all cylinders. New Jersey struck first to opening the scoring with a goal from the Silky Swedish Fwd Jesper Bratt. He buried a shot on a 2 v 1 opportunity after getting a pass from Jonas Siegenthaler. It didn’t take Vancouver long to tally one of there own JT Miller tapped one in on the Power Play. The goal came from just outside the crease of Devils Goalie Vitek Vanecek. Less than 2 minutes later Erik Haula potted a goal from an absolutely fantastic pass from Jack Hughes to make it 2-1 NJ at the halfway point of the 1st. The Devils would make it 3-1 with a nifty backhand shot from Jack Hughes which was assisted by Kevin Bahl. New Jersey would get another quick goal to make it 4-1 this time from ½ of the Super Buddies Mikey McLeod. He was assisted by the other ½ of the Super Buddies Nate Bastian and veteran fwd Curtis Lazar. Dakota Joshua made it 4-2 with a rebound goal for the Canucks.

2nd Period:

The second period was a defensive stalemate behind NJ and Van both teams refusing to allow quality opportunities. That changed with 0:45 seconds left in the period when Dakota Joshua tripped up Luke Hughes resulting in a 2 minute Power Play for the Devils. 11 seconds in to said Power Play the Devils capitalize on a loose puck pass by Jack Hughes to set his younger brother Luke up for a one timer that was ripped in for a goal! The Devils lead 5-2 to end the second after the Hughes Brothers connection for a goal.

3rd Period:

The 3rd period was a sloppy period for the Devils who killed off a Erik Haula penalty at the 1:23 mark of the 3rd. Nils Hoglander had a hit in NJ defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler which led to a goal for Vancouver. Brock Boeser took the pass from JT Miller and put in home for his 18th goal of the season. From that point Vancouver kept the momentum up and Sam Lafferty scored a tip-in with 6:02 with in the final period to make it 5-4 NJ. Quinn Hughes assisted the Lafferty goal. All 3 Hughes Brother tallied at least a point. The scoring didn’t stop there. The Nucks got another goal on NJ after a rebound went off Vanecek’s pads and Nils Hoglander sent it into the net to tie the game up 5-5 with 3:26 left in the 3rd. New Jersey would answer with the Game Winner with a goal from Jesper Bratt with only 0:34 seconds left. The Swedes second goal came off a deflected shot. Kevin Bahl fired in a wrister on a screened Thatcher Demko which was deflected by Devils Capitan Nico Hischier. The deflected puck landed right on Bratt’s stick for an easy goal on a open net. NJ snuck out a close win after a blown lead in the 3rd period.
