Diggs goes Down. Does the Cowboys season Follow?

News broke Thursday that star Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a torn ACL in practice and will miss the remainder of the season. This comes off the heels of a 30-10 dominance of the New York Jets where Diggs again showed his ability to be a problem for opposing play callers by collecting an interception and two pass defenses.
Although Diggs will be a huge hole to fill for the Cowboys defense, their secondary isn’t completely without proven star power as they picked up 33 year old Stephon Gilmore this offseason. With the now absent Diggs, Gilmore will look to take more responsibility the rest of the season as he’s going to not only become the only true proven corner in the Cowboys starting lineup, but now more than ever will have to pilot the young Dallas secondary to overcome the loss of their number one cover man.
Diggs marks the 6th player Dallas will be without for the season with fellow corner Nahshon Wright already on the IR along with offensive tackles Matt Waletzko and Josh Ball, wideouts David Durden and John Stephens Jr. and rookie 3rd round linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
The Cowboys have looked very electric in their past two contests but the injury bug is creeping in quickly and the Cowboys could find themselves on the outside looking in fast if it continues to make waves through their facility the way it has.
Dallas has a few favorable matchups ahead of them in Arizona then home against New England but with real tests approaching fast afterwards they will now have to rely on Micah Parsons and their greedy pass rush more than ever when they meet formidable opponents that remain on their schedule in the Eagles, Bills and Chargers.
If the Cowboys can remain relatively healthy as the season grinds on this could be a year where they find themselves in contention for the NFC East title and a playoff spot. If they can’t, they could find themselves under .500 on the season come October and November.
