The Curious Case of Jack Jones
Written by: #Keepingupwiththejoneses
New England Patriots Corner back Jack Jones has made a huge mistake. He knows it, we know, the Patriots know it. The only question now is how BIG of a mistake was it. Jones could face up to 30 years if he’s convicted on all charges consecutively per the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
On the morning of Friday June 16, 2023, Jack Jones was at Logan International Airport ready to board a flight. While routinely checking his bag with the X-ray scanner, TSA Agents found a box with two loaded pistols, and ammunition for said pistols. Jones maintains that he didn’t know that the box was in his gym bag.
Jones was arraigned on the 20th in East Boston Municipal Court. He entered a plea of “not guilty”, on all charges. His charges are two counts of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without an FID card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
It is unclear how this whole ordeal will effect his career at the moment, however we do know the Patriots are…LIVID.
“Right off the bat, there’s a strong possibility that, if convicted, he’s looking at a minimum of three and a half years,” Howe said, citing legal experts. “You bring that back over to the team side. Everything that Robert Kraft has done since Aaron Hernandez, I would be very, very surprised if he were a Patriot much longer.”
What may be the worst part of this whole situation is Jones is no stranger to legal troubles. He dropped from a possible late 1st round draft pick to the 4th round because of multiple problems during his college career. One of those problems came when he was at USC and he was charged with burglary for allegedly breaking into a Panda Express, to which he served 45 days house arrest for.
Or maybe the worst part of all of this is the irony of this tweet, Jack tweeted a month prior to his own arrest on gun charges:
Personally, I don’t think his career is over, he may not suit up in a Pats uniform ever again, but he may play in the league again. He’s young, and he’s very talented. Only time will if he’ll be on that field playing for Belichick again.
I think it is plausible that he truly didn’t know that the box was in his carry on bag. I mean, he’s a star athlete, it’s completely possible someone may have packed his bag for him.
Jones is expected back in court on August 18th for a probable cause hearing, the day before the second preseason game against the Packers. In theory, Jones is out on bail, so he could participate in preseason activities unless the team, or Roger Goodell suspend him. This case is definitely curious, and it’s definitely going to be a distraction for the Patriots defense this summer.
