On Thursday night the 2022-2023 Boston Bruins made history, again. By defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets, in a thrilling OT game, the Bruins clinched the 2022-2023 President’s Trophy for the first time since 2013-2014. *

The Bruins have set franchise record in number of points, (121) that is only expected to get bigger. They were the fastest team to reach 100 points getting there in just 61 games. The previous record was 62 games set by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens. At their current pace, the Bruins look to tie the record for the most points in a single season (132), which was set by those same Montreal Canadiens. With 7 games remaining, the Bruins could eclipse the point total, but it would take a lot of work, and they’d only be able to lose one more game.

Winning the President’s Trophy means that the road to the Stanley Cup runs through Boston. A team that is currently 31-4-3 at home. The Eastern Conference will have its handful with the Bruins, they are 17-3 this season vs. the playoff teams. It might be a good time to point out that the Bruins are also 11-3 against the Western Conference playoff teams.

The question now, is whether Jim Montgomery chooses to sit his starters for the remainder of the season (7 games) or go for the record. Personally, as a fan, records are meaningless if you don’t get your name etched on Lord Stanley’s Cup.

The Bruins resumes their quest for history, this afternoon against a Penguins team fighting for the last Wild Card Spot at 3:00pm EST. The Bruins are 2-0 against the Penguins this season.

*Not counting the bubble season
