1. Blake Coleman- Coleman has been a dependable asset to the Flames since jumping on board with the Organization back in July 2021. He’s been fairly consistent this season despite having a down year compared to last season when he scored 30 goals and 54 points in 78 games, which was also a career high. Through 40 games played this year, Coleman has only amassed 9 goals and 11 assists with +/- of -2 and an average ice time of 17:22. It’s important to take note, he’s heated up quite a bit the last 10 games. During the Flames last 10 contests, Coleman has 4 goals and 8 points with 1 goal being on the powerplay and another being a game winner. It’s still very possible that he breaks the 20 goal mark by the end of this season.
2. Kirill Zarubin- Zarubin is currently playing in the Molodyozhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga (MHL) for AKM Tula. Through 12 gamed played this year, he has a 7-5-0 record while making 353 saves and only allowing 26 goals against in that time, giving him a .931 SV% and a 2.34 GAA. The 6’3″, 207 pound goalkeeper was selected by the Calgary Flames in the 3rd round 84th overall this past draft in Vegas. He could be an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on.
3. Matt Coronato- Now for a Matty “Scoronato” update. Coronato has played 35 games so far this season, accumulating 9 goals and 11 assists, while earning a team best +9. Doing so with an average ice time of 16:41. Worth noting that he is 45.1% in faceoffs as well while being a reliable source of energy for the club this season. In his last 10 games he has 8 points with 3 of them coming on the powerplay. In that span, he has 30 shots in 227 shifts taken. I’m excited to see if he can break the 25 goal mark by the end of the year as his ice time has been over 19:00 5 times in the last 10 games he’s played.
4. Dustin Wolf- Now a Wolf check-in is in order. Wolf has now played 21 games this season and has a current record of 13-6-2 with a GAA of 2.60, a .914 SV% and 2 shutouts. Wolf currently sits 16th among all NHL goaltenders in wins, but is tied for 1st in the NHL with Hurricanes netminder Pyotr Kochetkov in points with 3 assists. This contribution may sound small, but it shows the poise and playmaking ability Wolf has to help the team break out of the defensive zone and go on the rush. I suspect Wolf gets more of the starts between him and Vladar throughout the remaining 42 games.
5. Yegor Sharangovich- Hopes were high after Sharangovich came back from injury early in the season, but things have been anything but easy for the young sniper. In his last 10 games played he’s managed just 3 assists and only 12 shots on goal in that span of time. If he can get back to using that lethal shot of his more, there is a good chance he can reach the 20 goal mark, but he’s got to start doing it sooner than later with only 42 games remaining. In 33 games played this season, Sharangovich has 6 goals and 5 assists while winning 49.3% of the faceoffs he takes. His +/- is -11 with an average time on ice of 17:37. I think it’s also worth noting that his career +/- is -61. I like Yegor, but when he’s not scoring, he’s not doing much else.
6. Daniil Miromanov- Miromanov has played 29 of the 40 games the Flames have been a part of so far this season. He has 1 goal and 5 assists through 29 games, with his last game in the line-up was in a 3-0 losing effort on December 29th 2024 against the Vegas Golden Knights where he was a -2 and had 1 shot on goal in 25 shifts. In his last 10 games played, he’s managed just 2 points and 12 shots on goal. This season, Miromanov has an average time on ice of 18:51, is a -1 and the only goal he pocesses was a game winner, which came during a 2-0 victory against the Nashville Predators on November 15/2024. With only 78 games played in his career, he is lacking experience, but he’s definately not as big of an offensive threat as anticipated. I’d love to see more from Miromanov moving forward.
7. Kevin Bahl- The “Bahler” has played all 40 games to this point of the season for the Calgary Flames. He’s accumulated 1 goal and 11 assists with his only goal being a powerplay marker he scored on December 3rd, 2024 against the Blue Jackets in a 3-0 victory. His season +/- is 0 and has 45 shots on goal with an average time on ice of 21:32, which is 4 more minutes more than any season average he’s had to this point of his career. Bahl has served 19 penalty minutes and has been a great partner for Rasmus Andersson. Bahl had 1 goal and 11 points last season through 82 games, which was a career high. He’s going to shatter that this season. Great to see from a young defender with his size and skating ability.
8. Tyson Barrie- When the Calgary Flames signed Tyson Barrie to 1 year deal on October 3rd, they thought they were improving their defensive depth while also giving themselves another option on the powerplay. Barrie has only played 9 of the 40 games the Flames have played this season, the last one, suiting up against the Canucks on November 12th, where he was a -1 with 1 shot in a 3-1 losing effort. Barrie has 2 points this season with 1 of them being a PPP and is a -2 overall with an average on ice time of 15:20. I don’t think the Flames really needed to sign him, but if somehow the Flames can make the playoffs, his workload and importance could increase drastically. Barrie turns 34 in July, and has 507 points in 818 games played over his career.
9. Matvei Gridin- Gridin has played 35 games this season for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL, scoring 21 goals while adding 24 assists to give him 45 points on the season. He’s got 19 PIMs and is a +16 on the year. Gridin was drafted by the Flames 28th overall in the 1st round of the 2024 NHL Entry draft, and with his ability to pass and score, he could be an intriguing propect to continue to monitor closely. He’s tied 9th overall in goals league wide, with 8 of them coming on the powerplay while sitting 9th overall in points.
10. Henry Mews- Mews is having a spectacular year with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL. Mews has a staggering 53 points in 39 games which puts him first out of all OHL defenders. Mews also sits 2nd over all skaters with 41 assists. He’s a -4 on the season and 11th overall out of all skaters for total points as well, while managing 42 PIMs and 5 powerplay goals on 164 shots on goal. You really couldn’t ask for much more from a kid drafted in the 3rd round 74th overall less than a year ago. Mews has 4 goals and 8 assists in his last 10 games played.
